Pronunciation

In Arabic: a /ʕ/ — a deep, squeezed voice from far back in the throat — Arabic's most famous sound; it is a true consonant and colors every vowel near it

In Persian: '(catch) /ʔ/ in Persian just a catch in the throat, or a silent lengthener of the vowel before it — the deep Arabic throat sound is not made

In Urdu: a /ʕ/, often just the vowel it carries at the start of a word ain simply carries the vowel that follows; inside learned Arabic words it is a deep throat sound
