About heart symbols
The heart shape has almost nothing to do with the organ: it descends from stylized ivy and fig leaves, was fixed by medieval playing cards, and is now the default symbol for love, health and approval online.
Unicode's hearts are a historical layer-cake: the card suits (♥ ♡), the heavy black heart of the dingbat era, outlined and rotated forms, and the later emoji hearts in their colors. The plain black heart (♥) is the one that pastes cleanly into any font.
