About pound signs
The pound sign exists in Unicode as a standard character and a fullwidth twin. The fullwidth form belongs to East Asian typography, where it occupies a full character cell alongside ideographs; in Western text the standard form is always the right one.
Fullwidth forms are compatibility characters — they exist so text converted from older East Asian encodings keeps its spacing. If a document mixes the two, search and sorting treat them as different symbols, which is why picking one form per document matters.
