About trademark & registered symbols
Three small raised marks carry a lot of law. ™ claims an unregistered trademark; ℠ does the same for a service; ® is the registered mark, reserved for trademarks actually granted registration — using it without one is an offense in many countries.
All three are single characters, not superscript letters: typing a raised 'TM' in small type is a common substitute, but the real characters (™ ® ℠) align, space and search correctly where the imitation does not.
